I’m Beth and I help women get into the best shape of their life with Pilates. I’m all about moving in ways to feel good, strong and healthy.
You might think that because I’m a Pilates instructor, I’m one of those people who are super into fitness. The truth is, I wouldn’t consider myself a fitness fanatic.
What I am into is health and wellness and am a bit of a nerd when it comes to learning about optimal health. I listen to podcasts, read and find myself constantly studying all things wellness.
Good health has many components, and I’ve found that when you take time to nurture all the elements, you become your best self. So, I’m all about movement and Pilates of course, but also good food, sleep, stress management and ways to nurture relationships.
You might be surprised to know, I don’t go to the gym. I have never felt like it was a good fit for me. When I found Pilates, I realised how a good a workout felt in my body and quickly noticed the benefits to my overall life.
Maybe you don’t feel like you’ll ever be a gym goer, or fit into the fitness scene. But, I can show you how you can be strong, healthy and move well with Pilates even if you’re not the stereotypical fitness obsessed gym goer.
What I learnt was that Pilates can be hard but it doesn’t hurt. This was such a revelation and helped me change my thinking about movement. For the first time, I started to notice muscle definition in my body. People were commenting that I was looking great. Pilates really did help me become strong. Physically, and also strength mentally. I began feeling more confident and the time out in my classes was just what I needed when my kids were little.
I was a primary school teacher when I first started attending Pilates. I looked forward to my Pilates sessions each week. It was a real treat, as I felt it was a specific time in busy weeks, where I gave myself permission to focus on myself and really bring my thoughts inward. To recognise how I was feeling, how my body felt, take those deep breaths. Pilates to me was like an indulgence.
I began to imagine what it would be like to do the thing I loved the most in my week, – every day! That’s when I started my Pilates teacher training through Polestar Pilates in Sydney. I hadn’t studied since before I had my two kids, so the thought of using my brain again in this way was exciting.
At the time, it was actually a big deal for me, to leave the kids for weekends and go to the city on my own to study. It was such a good time for me to grow as a person and learn new things.
As I started teaching Pilates, I realised that so many of my school teaching skills came in handy! I found out that teaching Pilates is similar to a classroom. I often have a super plan of what I think would be perfect session, then have to re-think the entire idea when the client comes in, depending on what’s going on in their life. Being intuitive and responding to my clients needs is what I’ve loved. Pilates has the power to energise, invigorate, relax, stretch and strengthen. We can tap into all the benefits and access what we need on different days.
Pilates was what worked for me. I believe the main reason was that it was enjoyable and I kept it up. That’s why I teach Pilates. To encourage and inspire women to feel their best.
I honestly didn’t know I could feel this good. I have more energy than I did when I was younger, I’m so much stronger, and I feel better and clearer in my thoughts. Basically, Pilates has improved all areas of my life. I know it sounds cliche, but it’s the truth!
I’d love to help you find your best self too! That’s why I created the ‘My Best Shape’ 6 week online Pilates course.
