It’s important to keep your mat fresh and clean. Your mat will last longer, and you’ll feel so much better about laying down to begin your workout.
I have to say, I had an unpleasant experience once, taking a yoga class. The teacher was great, I was in a good mindset to enjoy the class, but the grotty mat ruined the experience! Take care of your mat with a little regular cleaning.
Here is a simple solution for cleaning your Pilates mat. I keep a spray bottle handy and give it a wipe down regularly.
Combine equal parts water and white vinegar. Add a few drops of your favourite essential oil. I like using tea tree oil which is good to remove odours and peppermint oil because it has a lovely freshness and provides an uplifting energy.
If you find your mat is in need of a really good clean, you could pop it in the bath and wash gently with a mild soap solution. Hang your mat in the sun to dry.
Also, it’s a good idea to give your spikey ball a wash every now and then too. I just throw my collection of balls into the laundry tub with some mild detergent and then rinse with water. Pop them out in the sun to dry.
