Studies have shown that one of the key factors in keeping our brain sharp and functioning well is to keep doing new things!
All too often we settle into routines that leave us walking through life on autopilot. The same route to work, the same walking track, the same meals and the same everyday structure to our day.
While I’m a big believer in routines, there’s something refreshing about shaking things up every so often.
This has become highlighted since our move to Christchurch. For me, I’ve had to find new places to shop, to walk, and different ways of doing things in a new (and smaller) house. Change can feel uncomfortable. It stretches us, causes tension and stress. But when we deal with the tension, that’s when we grow. (Btw, it’s the same with the body… a little stress or challenge creates muscle growth!)
Change wakes up the senses, shifts our perspectives and freshens our outlook.
Why not think about some new things you can try this year. Write yourself a list. – I jotted my list down in the back of my diary so that I can come back to it from time to time when I feel like challenging myself.
How about…
Take a cooking class
A dancing class!
Learn a new craft
Walk the dog in a different neighbourhood
Try a different market or food shop
Read a genre of book you wouldn’t usually go for
Try some new recipes or cuisine
Have some people around for dinner who you don’t know very well
Take a golf lesson.
I’d love to hear what’s on your list! Write back and tell me! And I’ll share with you my list too!
If you’d like to try something new, join me for a live online class this week! These are group classes over zoom. You don’t need to have done Pilates before, you don’t need to be a wizz on the computer and you don’t need any equipment.
All you need is a willingness to try something new, and I promise you’ll have a great time!
Fill out this form, and I’ll book you in for a free trial of a live class.
I can’t wait to meet you in person!
